About SCMS

Skill Council for Mining Sector (SCMS) promoted by FIMI and supported by Ministry of Mines is the apex body to train and meet the requirement of skilled workforce for the mining industry in PPP mode, setup by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The core activity of SCMS is to formulate the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for different job roles aligned to National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) notified by Government of India, in December, 2013.

Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in its notification dated 17th March 2015 has authorized SCMS as a non-statutory agency for certifying the mining workforce in India.

Objectives of SCMS

  • To develop Qualification Files (QFs) and National Occupational Standards (NOSs) aligned to the needs of the mining industry based on the Skill Gap Analysis/ reports and industry demands.
  • To lay emphasis on Safety, Productivity, Quality Assurance, Mechanization & Waste management.
  • To work closely with industry, stake holders and Government/statutory bodies to maintain robust Labor Market Information System (LMIS).

    MOU with District Mineral Foundation Trust, Hazaribagh, (Jharkhand)
    We are proud to announce the signing of an MOU with District Mineral Foundation Trust, Hazaribagh, (Jharkhand) on 17th Jan 2024 for a “Short term Training” project covering 390 local candidates/ Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in the distt of Hazaribagh. The MOU was signed by Shrimati Nancy Sahay, (IAS) Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman (DMFT), Hazaribagh and Shri Sanjay Sharma, CEO, SCMS in the presence of Shri. Ronit Kumar, DMF Cell, Hazaribagh and Shri Navneet Kumar, Head- Business Development and Operations, SCMS. The training (Residential mode) shall be followed by NSQF aligned certification imparted in non-operator and Operator job roles including hands on training on the equipment. The training duration of the job roles will range from 450 to 560 hours and SCMS will facilitate placement of certified candidates in gainful employment. The training will be free of charge for the candidates including lodging & boarding, safety kits, medical fitness test, insurance, and stipend during OJT.

    Exhibition Stall at NCC Camp , Delhi Cantt, New Delhi
    SCMS participated in an event organized by NCC at Cariappa Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt on January 3rd, 2024 during their RDC (Republic Day Camp) camp involving 1500 cadets of Army NCC cadets, Naval NCC cadets and Air Force NCC cadets( Boys and Girls). On this event, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, CEO-SCMS shared his thoughts and opportunities available to youths in the Mining Sector. The cadets also experienced the effects and utilities of VR Content developed for HEMM equipment like Excavator in the exhibition stall laid by SCMS which received very encouraging responses from the cadets

    MOU with Central Coalfields Limited, Ranchi,
    We are happy to announce signing of an MOU with Central Coalfields Limited, Ranchi, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited , on 4th November 2023. This MOU is for conducting a Skill Development program for 60 local candidates/PAPs of CCL in the Chatra District of Jharkhand and under the CSR initiative of CCL so as to make them employable in the job rolls of Loader Operator- Mining. This would be a residential programe for a period of 3-4 months. The MOU was signed by Shri Ladi Balakrishna, General Manager- CSR on behalf of CCL and Shri Sanjay Sharma, CEO-SCMS in the presence of Mr. S.S. Lal, Chief Manager, CSR, CCL, Mr. John Bodra, Manager, CCL, and Mr. Navneet Kumar, Head- Business Development and Operations, SCMS. SCMS extends its gratitude to Deputy Commissioner of Chatra District, jharkhand for facilitating this skilling project under their jurisdiction.

    MOU with TP_GHH India Mining & Tunnelling Equipment Pvt Ltd
    We are delighted to inform signing of an MOU with GHH India Mining & Tunnelling Equipment Pvt Ltd as an "Industry Training Partner" on 17th October 2023. It's worth mentioning that komatsu has signed an agreement to acquire GHH group GmbH (GHH Fahrzeuge GmbH). It is known that Komatsu is the world second largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment. The MOU was signed by Shri Sanjay Sharma, CEO, SCMS and Shri Pradeep kumar, Head of Service, GHH in presence of Sanjeev Sharma (GHH), Deepak Mishra and Navneet Kumar (SCMS)

    MOU signed in World Skill Centre , Odisha
    MOU was signed at World Skill Centre on 21st Aug 2023 for creation of a World Class Centre of Excellence- in the Mining Sector in Odisha. MOU was signed by Mr Reghu G. (IAS), Chief Executive Officer, OSDA and Mr. Sanjay Sharma, CEO, SCMS in presence of Ms Alka Misra Chairperson, OSDA and Mr. Pankaj Kumar Satija, MD Tata Steel Mining Ltd & Chairman, Skill Council for Mining Sector.
