About SCMS

Skill Council for Mining Sector (SCMS) promoted by FIMI and supported by Ministry of Mines is the apex body to train and meet the requirement of skilled workforce for the mining industry, setup by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The core activity of SCMS is to formulate the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for different job roles aligned to National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) notified by Government of India, in December, 2013.

Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in its notification dated 17th March 2015 has authorized SCMS as a non-statutory agency for certifying the mining workforce in India.

Objectives of SCMS

  • To develop Qualification Files (QFs) and National Occupational Standards (NOSs) aligned to the needs of the mining industry based on the Skill Gap Analysis/ reports and industry demands.
  • To lay emphasis on Safety, Productivity, Quality Assurance, Mechanization & Waste management.
  • To work closely with industry, stake holders and Government/statutory bodies to maintain robust Labor Market Information System (LMIS).

    12th Annual General Meeting and the 48th Governing Board Meeting
    The 12th Annual General Meeting and the 48th Governing Board Meeting of the Skill Council for Mining Sector (SCMS) was successfully convened on 27th August 2025 (Hybrid) at FIMI house , New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Shri Pankaj Satija, Executive In-Charge of the Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division, Tata Steel Ltd., and Chairman of SCMS.     MoU with DMFT Kalahandi (Odisha)
    Skill Council for Mining Sector signed an MoU with DMFT Kalahandi (Odisha) on 25th September 2024 for a Skill Development project (Short Term Training) in the mining sector aligned with National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) for 300 candidates. The MoU was signed by Shri Ajit Kumar Uttaray, District Skill Development cum Employment Officer, Kalahandi and Shri Navneet Kumar, COO, Skill Council for Mining Sector in the presence of Shri Sachin Pawar (IAS), Collector & District Magistrate, Kalahandi.

    MOU with District Mineral Foundation Trust, Hazaribagh, (Jharkhand)
    We are proud to announce the signing of an MOU with District Mineral Foundation Trust, Hazaribagh, (Jharkhand) on 17th Jan 2024 for a “Short term Training” project covering 390 local candidates/ Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in the distt of Hazaribagh. The MOU was signed by Shrimati Nancy Sahay, (IAS) Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman (DMFT), Hazaribagh and Shri Sanjay Sharma, CEO, SCMS in the presence of Shri. Ronit Kumar, DMF Cell, Hazaribagh and Shri Navneet Kumar, Head- Business Development and Operations, SCMS. The training (Residential mode) shall be followed by NSQF aligned certification imparted in non-operator and Operator job roles including hands on training on the equipment. The training duration of the job roles will range from 450 to 560 hours and SCMS will facilitate placement of certified candidates in gainful employment. The training will be free of charge for the candidates including lodging & boarding, safety kits, medical fitness test, insurance, and stipend during OJT.

    Exhibition Stall at NCC Camp , Delhi Cantt, New Delhi
    SCMS participated in an event organized by NCC at Cariappa Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt on January 3rd, 2024 during their RDC (Republic Day Camp) camp involving 1500 cadets of Army NCC cadets, Naval NCC cadets and Air Force NCC cadets( Boys and Girls). On this event, Mr. Sanjay Sharma, CEO-SCMS shared his thoughts and opportunities available to youths in the Mining Sector. The cadets also experienced the effects and utilities of VR Content developed for HEMM equipment like Excavator in the exhibition stall laid by SCMS which received very encouraging responses from the cadets
