About SCMS

Skill Council for Mining Sector (SCMS) promoted by FIMI and supported by Ministry of Mines is the apex body to train and meet the requirement of skilled workforce for the mining industry in PPP mode, setup by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

The core activity of SCMS is to formulate the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for different job roles aligned to National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) notified by Government of India, in December, 2013.

Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in its notification dated 17th March 2015 has authorized SCMS as a non-statutory agency for certifying the mining workforce in India.

Objectives of SCMS

  • To develop Qualification Files (QFs) and National Occupational Standards (NOSs) aligned to the needs of the mining industry based on the Skill Gap Analysis/ reports and industry demands.
  • To lay emphasis on Safety, Productivity, Quality Assurance, Mechanization & Waste management.
  • To work closely with industry, stake holders and Government/statutory bodies to maintain robust Labor Market Information System (LMIS).

    It is pleased to announce that SCMS has entered an MOU with Vivekanand Polytechnic Sitasaongi, Bhandara (Maharashtra) on 9th May 2023 to align mining related -NSQF job roles for diploma mining students.

    Impact Assessment Study report on Skill Development Project (2016-19) sponsored by Hindustan Zinc Limited, Udaipur
    The first Impact Assessment Study report in respect of the training project executed at Hindustan Zinc Ltd. during 2016-19 in Jumbo Drill Operator & Winding Engine Operator trades has been submitted by M/s S R Asia. The research was conducted in and around 3 training centers located in the districts of Bhilwara, Rajsamand, and Udaipur in Rajasthan. Besides many other stakeholders, out of 326, 171 successful trainees and 30 dropouts were interviewed. The detailed report can be perused in the Knowledge bank tab on the home screen.

    Adoption of four job roles
    NCVET has accorded formal approval for the adoption of four job roles which are Backhoe Loader Operator, Excavator Operator, Hydra Crane Operator & Crawler Crane Operator of NSQF level 4 by SCMS from Infrastructure Equipment Skill Council (IESC), the other Awarding Body.

    MOU with AKS University, Satna (MP)
    SCMS has signed an MOU with AKS University, Satna (MP) to embrace the National Education Policy 2020 and providing NSQF aligned add on courses related to mining domain. During MOU signing Shri Anant Kumar Soni - Pro Chancellor, Prof. Harshwardhan - Pro Vice Chancellor, other faculty members and Sudarshan from SCMS were present.

    Inaugural Ceremony of 13th World Petro Coal Congress-2023
    Shri Sanjay Sharma, CEO attended the Inaugural Ceremony of the Joint Conference of the 13th World Petro Coal Congress-2023 held on 15th Feb 2023 at Convention Centre-NDCC, Parliament Street, New Delhi. Along with other co-panelists, he also delivered a session on 16th Feb 2023 on the theme “Skill and Leadership Development in Energy Sectors” which was chaired by Mrs. Veena Swarup - Former Director (HR), Engineers India Limited
