National Occupational Standards (NOS) are:

NOS, which stands for National Occupational Standards, are standards that are applicable to every part of India. They are considered occupational because they describe the required performance of individuals when performing specific functions in the workplace. These standards are developed by the industry and represent statements of effective performance that have been agreed upon by a representative sample of employers and other stakeholders.

NOS specify the performance standards that individuals must achieve in their workplace functions, along with the necessary knowledge and understanding to consistently meet those standards. In essence, NOS serve as benchmarks of good practice.

The increasing use of NOS also reflects the current industry trend of establishing national standards of competence, skill descriptions, and a shared "vocabulary" among trainees, employers, and training providers.

Stages in the development of NOS

Occupational Mapping: The task involves identifying the main parties involved in the telecommunications sector and gaining an understanding of their organizational structure.

Functional Analysis: Conduct an examination of the tasks individuals are expected to perform as part of their job and determine the desired outcomes these individuals should accomplish.

Development of NOS: This process includes integrating performance criteria, as well as the necessary knowledge, understanding, and skills related to a specific job.

Approval of NOS: The validation will be carried out by a diverse range of industry players (at least 10 employers per category) and subsequently by the Qualification Ratification Committee (QRC) at NSDC.

Supporting the Implementation of NOS: All key stakeholders will actively drive the validation and implementation of the occupational standards.

Maintain relevance and currency of NOS: The development process will consider the current requirements of the industry. Regular reviews will be conducted to ensure the occupational standards remain up-to-date.
