18 August 2026 | JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar, Andheri East, Mumbai, Maharashtra , India

About SCMS

Skill Council for Mining Sector (SCMS) is a Section 8 company registered under the Companies Act, 2013, promoted by the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) and supported by the Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Coal, Government of India, as the line ministries. SCMS was established through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to develop and support a skilled workforce for the mining sector.

SCMS is also recognised as an Awarding Body (AB) by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) under the aegis of MSDE.

๐ŸŽ“ SCMS: School-to-Leadership Approach

SCMS has adopted a School-to-Leadership approach to create a structured talent pipeline for the mining sector. As part of this initiative, SCMS has developed the “Fundamentals of Mining” micro-credential for school students, aimed at creating awareness about the importance and opportunities within the mining industry at an early stage, particularly among students from project-affected areas.

๐ŸŒ SCMS–UWA Collaboration

SCMS and The University of Western Australia (UWA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 4 December 2025 for the joint development and dual certification of mining qualifications. The MoU was formally exchanged during the 3rd Australia–India Education and Skills Council (AIESC) Meeting held on 8 December 2025 in New Delhi.

Under the MoU, SCMS and UWA have jointly developed the Global Leadership Program for senior mining professionals, which is scheduled to be launched during the workshop.

The two institutions are also collaborating on qualifications and learning initiatives in strategic and emerging areas including:

  • -  Critical Minerals
  • -  Mineral Extraction from Tailings
  • -  Advanced Mineral Exploration
  • -  Emerging Mining Technologies
  • -  Sustainable Mining Practices
